Always The Bridesmaid, Never The Bride 3.0

Always The Bridesmaid, Never The Bride

Author’s note: The Coke series is indefinitely on hold.

But may naka-set na next fiction story akong gagawin. It is titled:

“Taga-Hugas Ka Raw Ng Burat Sa May Ermita.”

Anyway, “Always The Bridesmaid, Never The Bride” is somehow related to the Coke series.

The woman in this story became my ex-girlfriend while Precious and I were in a relationship.

All these happened in 2013.

Err, no. Hindi ko pala sila pinagsabay.

Apologies also because it took me nearly two weeks to update this story.

Mahirap talaga maging alipin ng trabaho. Hehehe.

MORE THAN WHAT MEETS THE EYE

It’s been a long day without you, Na-Leng
And I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
We’ve come a long way from where we began
Oh, I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again
When I see you again.

THAT time, Editor-in-Chief nga ako ng college student publication namin.

She can’t attend her class kina Leng because of a meeting.

I convinced her that I take over sa klase niya.

Tiwala naman siya kasi first sem na that time and magpra-practice teaching na kami sa second sem.

World Literature ang subject.

Putangina! Basta writing, grammar, and lit subjects, kahit tulog ako kaya kong ituro ang mga iyan.

Leng’s classmates were stunned when they saw me enter their classroom.

Nag-blush sina Shaira and Leng.

The students were murmuring.

“Dr. Roldan asked me to take over just for today. She has an urgent meeting with university officials,” I told them.

“We’ll read a poem today.”

One student in the class caught my attention when she nonchalantly stood up and said:

“What poem, sir? I hope it’s not boring.”

It was Leene, na naging babae ko rin pero after I graduated na. That’s another story.

So, sa class na iyon, tatlo silang naging babae ko: Shaira, Leng, and Leene.

The poem that the class read was “The Ballad of the Lonely Masturbator” by Anne Sexton.

“The end of the affair is always death.

She’s my workshop. Slippery eye,

out of the tribe of myself my breath

finds you gone. I horrify

those who stand by. I am fed.

At night, alone, I marry the bed.

Finger to finger, now she’s mine.

She’s not too far. She’s my encounter.

I beat her like a bell. I recline

in the bower where you used to mount her.

You borrowed me on the flowered spread.

At night, alone, I marry the bed.

Take for instance this night, my love,

that every single couple puts together

with a joint overturning, beneath, above,

the abundant two on sponge and feather,

kneeling and pushing, head to head.

At night alone, I marry the bed.

I break out of my body this way,

an annoying miracle. Could I

put the dream market on display?

I am spread out. I crucify.

My little plumis what you said.

At night, alone, I marry the bed.

Then my black-eyed rival came.

The lady of water, rising on the beach,

a piano at her fingertips, shame

on her lips and a flute’s speech.

And I was the knock-kneed broom instead.

At night, alone, I marry the bed.

She took you the way a woman takes

a bargain dress off the rack

and I broke the way a stone breaks.

I give back your books and fishing tack.

Today’s paper says that you are wed.

At night, alone, I marry the bed.

The boys and girls are one tonight.

They unbutton blouses. They unzip flies.

They take off shoes. They turn off the light.

The glimmering creatures are full of lies.

They are eating each other. They are overfed.

At night, alone, I marry the bed.”

Nakuha ko ang phone number niya after our class and I texted her that night.

“Leng, do you still want to be alone at night and marry the bed?”

“Fuck me, G.”

I knew it. Bibigay din ang babaeng ito. I just did not expect it to be that fast.

Hindi ako makatulog that night thinking of ways how will I be able to rail Leng.

Ito background niya from the Coke series:

Close friend ko na babae since high school si Jessica.

Crush ko siya dati pero friends lang talaga. And, never ko siyang napag-isipan ng kahalayan. May mga kaibigan tayong ganoon. Kaibigan lang talaga.

Magkasama kami sa 2013 and 2015 Palarong Pambansa coverage.

Nagkasama pa kami ni Jessica in 2019 covering the SEA Games although magkaiba na kami ng media companies.

Not that hindi siya maganda o sexy, naging crush ko nga, pero wala talaga.

Lust can’t beat my respect and love as a friend for her.

Engaged na rin ngayon si Jessica and although madalang na kaming magkita because of different priorities, she remains as one of true friends ever.

Never ko rin siyang niyayang pumunta sa Baguio as a friend.

“Hindi ka mapakali diyan, G. Hehehe. Parang sisilaban puwet mo,” ani Jessica.

“Ah. Kasi, ano, eh. . . Need ko help mo.”

“I know where this is headed to. Babae na naman? Si Precious? Rona? Who else? Hahaha.”

“May bago.”

“Ano pa nga bang bago? Oh, ano namang tulong ang kailangan mo?”

Ang gobyernong mayroon tayo, walang bago.

Our health workers and frontliners are crying for help.

Record-shattering ang COVID-19 cases the past few days pero it appears na walang sense of urgency from the government.

GCQ Alert level 4 is bullshit. It’s still ECQ in principle.

“Jessica, puwede ba kaming mag-overnight dito sa apartment mo ni Leng? She’s my new one. 2nd year. Same course.”

“What? Are you out of your mind? Look. OKay lang kay mommy na lagi kang nandito and matulog ka dito, pero if may kasama kang iba, and makita ni aling Puring, iyong kasera ng unit, lagot tayo pareho.”

“Sige na. Mag-date muna kayo ng boyfriend mo.”

“Hell no, G!”

“Bahala na nga. Sige na, Jessica. May class ako ng 1:30 ngayong hapon. 11:23 a.m. na. Male-late ako.”

“Hoy! Galit ka? Kain ka muna.”

“Sa school na. Hindi ako galit, takte.

“Go ahead, G.”

“Sunday na ulit tayo magkita, Jessica. May UAAP. Cover tayo. May utang ka pang libre. Taco Bell na lang sa Gateway.”

Habang nakasakay sa LRT, inilabas ko ang wallet ko and tinignan ang mga laman nito:

2×2 photo ni Precious, four thousand three hundred fifty pesos, press ID, school ID, sedula, at Trust condom.

Alam ko naman na may pera ako at kaya kong i-SOGO si Leng kaso I was hesitant dahil hindi ko pa siya masyadong kilala.

Date muna sa SM Sta. Mesa and then sa gilid after?

Parang gago ang oras. Masyadong mabilis.

Shaira was inside their classroom and ang sama ng tingin sa akin.

I just shrugged it off.

You had your chance, Shaira, but pa-tweetums ka.

You flubbed it.

Our first labas together was kind of strange because walang label between us ni Leng that time although eventually naging girlfriend ko rin siya.

We had dinner at Classic Savory.

It was the entree.

Nag-checked in kami sa SOGO Sta. Mesa. It was the main dish.

Pukinangina. Alam na alam ni Leng ang gagawin. I was flabbergasted.

After naming makapasok sa bahay na walang kusina, marahang inilapag ni Leng ang pink JanSport niyang bag at clear folder containing her school files.

Hinubad na din niya ang sapatos and long sleeves niya sabay kuha at takip ng tuwalya.

Grabe ang samyo ni Leng. Sobrang bango. Another fetish ko iyan sa babae.

Bench iyong perfume niya and kahit galing sa school, amoy parang bagong ligo pa rin.

“Mag-shower muna ako. Follow me if you want, G.”

May karug. . .
